For forgetful types, it promises to be a new wonder pill.

But far from boosting the memory, the tiny swallowable capsules contain a minute chip that transmits an individual’s personal details.

Electronic devices will be able to read the unique signal, ending the need for passwords and paper forms of ID, such as passports – and freeing users from such mundane tasks as recalling countless codes and security answers.

Already approved by the both the and European regulators, the ingestible sensor is powered by a battery using the acid in the wearer’s stomach.

Each pill is designed to move through the body at the normal process of digestion, and according to engineers working on the device, it can be taken every day for up to a month.

Based on a technology developed by California-based Proteus Digital Health, it contains a computer chip and a switch, which is activated when it comes in contact with acid in the user’s body.

It then sends a tiny signal that can be read by mobile devices and allows them to verify the identity of an individual.

The controversial pill is being championed by Motorola executive, Regina Dugan, once dubbed ‘America’s smartest engineer’.

‘Essentially, your entire body becomes your authentication token,’ she said.

She was the first female director of government’s spy technology agency Darpa (Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency) before joining Google’s Motorola Mobility division last year.

Speaking at a conference last month, she said: ‘Authentication is irritating. In fact it’s so irritating only about half the people do it.

‘Despite the fact there is a lot of information about you on your smartphone, which makes you far more prone to identity theft.

‘After 40 years of advances in computation, we’re still authenticating the same way we did years ago – passwords. In fact it’s worse, the average users does it 39 times a day and it takes them 2.3 seconds every time they do it.

Power users will do it up to 100 times a day. So what are we doing about it? Well [Motorola] is thinking of a whole variety of options for how to do better at authentication such as near-term things including tokens or fobs that have NFC or bluetooth.

‘But you can also think about a means of authentication you can wear on your skin every day, say an electronic tattoo or a vitamin pill.’

The company is also exploring the use electronic tattoos that contain personal verification data.

Fresh revelations about the scale of U.S. surveillance programs reveal Barack Obama’s broken promises

Obama, with Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping by his side, called Friday for common rules on cybersecurity after allegations of hacking by Beijing.

In 2008, a small legal foundation in San Francisco launched a civil action for customers against the , claiming it was illegally obtaining their phone records.

The aim was to test the legal boundaries of what staffers believed was a vast government surveillance program of Americans’ private communications.

I think we got balance right, Obama claims as furor intensifies over massive spy programs

President Barack Obama promised the American people “nobody is listening to your telephone calls” as he faced tough questions Friday over whether he had allowed U.S. surveillance to run out of control.

Speaking on the eve of a major U.S.-China summit in California, Obama was forced to answer accusations that his administration had expanded on Bush-era surveillance systems that he had once campaigned against.

Under intense fire from both the liberal Left and libertarian Right for trampling on constitutional freedoms, the president defended secret programs that collect data on hundreds of millions of phone calls and harvest huge amounts of online information about foreigners. “In the abstract you can complain about Big Brother or how this is a potential program run amok, but when you actually look at the details I think we’ve struck the right balance,” Obama said, insisting that they were vital in the fight against terrorism.

Since then, federal and appeals courts have kicked the little-known case around, never killing it, just letting it flounder against a wall of claims the information was “classified” and “top secret.”

“The government has raised every legal privilege it could possibly muster to block a regular federal court from hearing the case,” said Mark Rumold, a staff lawyer at the Electronic Frontier Foundation, which launched the case.

The EFF lawyers were trying to put an end to a nationwide domestic surveillance program they had no real proof even existed.

“I kind of hoped that we were wrong, that the government wasn’t doing what we alleged,” he said. “But we were right, unfortunately.”

In fact, the U.S. government is not only obtaining the phone records of hundreds of millions of Americans, it is also operating a covert program, called Prism, which obtains email and other electronic data records from Internet companies, such as Google, Facebook and Apple.

US government claims 100% ownership over all your DNA and reproductive rights; genetic slavery is already here

DNA-Money

The United States government claims 100% ownership over all your DNA and reproductive rights. This astonishing revelation has emerged from the fact that the claims the power to assign ownership of your DNA to private companies and universities who apply for patents on your genes.

To date, more than 4,000 genes have been assigned ownership to corporations and universities by the U.S. patent office. Such an assignment of ownership proves that the government believes it owns 100% of all human genes — you cannot transfer ownership of something unless you first own it yourself.

To date, 20 percent of your genetic code is owned by someone else. About two-thirds of these patents belong to private companies, and one-third belong to universities. The company that owns the most patents is called Incyte, a drug company based in which “owns” the patents on 2,000 human genes.

update now Over 12,000 dead pigs fished out in China, Historic number of sea lions washing up in S. California — Has reached “epidemic proportions” — Center declares state of emergency

NBC News, March 16, 2013: Along Southern California’s pristine coastline, ailing sea lions are turning up in record numbers. “We have a lot of little pups this year,” said veterinarian Lauren Palmer […] Usually, around this time of year, there might be a dozen sick sea lions in San Pedro, said David Bard, operations director for the San Pedro Marine Mammal Care Center. But so far, the care center has taken in nearly 200 and counting. Last week alone, there were 50 new cases. […] Last week, the Pacific Marine Mammal Center in Laguna Beach declared their organization in a “state of emergency” as it continues to see an onslaught of California sea lion pups in need of medical attention.

CBS Los Angeles, March 12, 2013: Marine Mammal Center Declares State Of Emergency For Sea Lion Pups […] “It’s absolutely in crisis mode in our center, there are currently 88 marine mammals being treated there,” said head of development Melissa Sciacca […] Sciacca also says that most of the sea lion pups are coming ashore severely malnourished and dehydrated, and that the problem has reached “epidemic proportions” along the Orange County coast.

NBC 7 San Diego, March 12, 2013: “We don’t know what the problem is now,” said Susan Chivers, a biologist with the National Marine Fisheries Service. […] Chivers said marine mammal experts are beginning to discuss the problem and gather data to try and better understand why the pups are dying. […] “There’s something going on oceanographically that there’s not sufficient food available for the moms to nurse their pups or the pups, as they’re starting to eat on their own, to find,” said Chivers.

OC Register, March 11, 2013: If the pace of stranded sea lions remains at roughly nine times more than normal […] “There’s really not any indication that it’s slowing down,” [Pacific Marine Mammal Center spokeswoman Melissa] Sciacca said.

Laguna Beach Coastline Pilot, March 11, 2013: Center: Surge of sea lions leads to state of emergency […] The Pacific Marine Mammal Center declared a state of emergency Monday due to the influx of malnourished and dehydrated sea lion pups coming ashore on Orange County beaches. The facility on Laguna Canyon Road – the only marine mammal care center for Orange County – admitted 18 sea lions Saturday and Sunday. Twelve came in on Saturday, the largest single-day total in the center’s 42-year history, according to a press release. […] The [Marine Mammal Care Center at] Fort MacArthur center is the one facility for all of Los Angeles County and is experiencing a similar surge in admitted sea lion pups. The center has taken in more than 280 animals since the beginning of the year, said director David Bard.

Chinese workers have fished more than 12,000 dead pigs out of a main waterway in the cities of Shanghai and Jiaxing over the week, in a scandal that has spotlighted China’s troubles with food safety, according to officials.

The South China Morning Post newspaper quoted government sources as saying on Sunday that nearly 9,000 swine carcasses were found in a river in Shanghai, and 3,600 others in Jiaxing, with the search continuing in both cities.

Authorities have also found traces of a common pig virus in some of the animals floating in the Huangpu River this week.

“Shanghai’s animal control authority found porcine circovirus, a common disease among hogs that was not known to infect humans, in 13 of 20 samples of internal organs taken from dead pigs retrieved from the Huangpu,” the newspaper quoted Ministry of Agricultural as saying.

The swine effluent discovered flowing down the Huangpu river – which supplies a fifth of the commercial hub’s drinking water – has added the country’s most popular meat to a growing list of food items rocked by scandal. Authorities also said that after intensified checks they have not found any substandard pork products on the market and were closely monitoring water quality
